Should the motto "In God We Trust" be removed from U.S. currency?
This country has a lot more important issues to worry about than to argue whether or not to remove such historical motto like 'In God We Trust.' Wake up - atheists! Don't be so vain!
When are the Majority going to quit letting the Minority, no, much less that that, control? God as a Supreme Being is known by many names. In this country, the USA, God is the established name. This country was founded on the right to worship God. Other countries use different names. If you or your ancesters migrated to the USA after this country was established, you in effect agreed to live in and abide by the established beliefs and way of life. If you do not agree then you should leave this country and go back to your country or to a country that believes like you do. The Rights that the USA was founded on are being taken away daily. WHEN ARE THE MAJORITY GOING TO STAND UP AND FIGHT BACK?

First of all, I vote that the motto remains. However, I ask this questions. How does the Motto "In God we trust" promote any particular religion?? The God mentioned in this motto is non specific, It could be the Judeo-Christian God of the Bible, or the Allah, as found in the Koran, or mabey even the God within each of us as espoused by Eckhart Tolle and Oprah. While I believe unashamedly in the God of the Bible, I also, believe in the right of every American to search out and find the God that is real to them and makes a difference in their life. Additionally, I do not see how this motto in any way is discriminatory or unconsitutonal. Our country as indeed founded by people looking for a country where they could be free to believe whatever they chose to believe in. I think the real question here should be this. If an atheist truly believes the is no God, than what does he have to fear from a reference to a "God"? At the very least this phrase is a historical reference to our nations past and as such should be guarded and protected as much as the Constitution and Declaration of Independance!
This is the USA. Many of us are veterans and have fought for the freedom to believe in and express our religion. Our motto is In God We Trust. If you don't like that, LEAVE. Don't let the door hit you in the butt. I'm sure there is still space aboard some vessel headed somewhere else in the world where they choose not to believe in God, don't know about God, or are very accepting of people who believe their own misguided beliefs in their rights outweigh the rights and feelings of the majority. Bye.

I don't think that Athiest should try to impose their Minority view on us. I find it exhausting that between Athiest, Gays, Lesbians, and other groups that think their views/beliefs/rights are being denied are trying to take ours from us. If you don't like the fact that GOD is named on our currency, buildings, and our country, then LEAVE!! We will not try to stop you. Should you choose to pursue forcing us to live by your beliefs, don't even think of trying to accuse us of hate crimes when we are only defending our beliefs. I am seeing this trend developing, too. Can I pay for your one way ticket to anywhere but here??????
The following link is from a treaty Jefferson endorsed providing an indian tribe with the funds to hire a priest for education and to build a church, for among other reasons, to become knowledgeable and participate in the same civility that enlightened people shared. Christianity gave certain intellectual foundations to our government and society, which must be appreciated.
The "principle of seperation of church and state" must be examined. It is not part of our legal system, nor found anywhere in any legal document or in the constitution.. It derives from a letter that Jefferson wrote to a Baptist minister who wanted to make the Baptist brand of Christianity the official faith of the USA. Jefferson denounces that idea, but simultaneously demonstrates through the Kaskaskian treaty, which I have linked for you, that religion has a place in America. To think otherwise demonstrates unreasonable unenlightened bigotry. But on the otherhand fanatics should not force religion on others. A balance is needed. Keep in God We trust. Catholic and Proud!
Amen to the above letter.. When are we going to stop bowing down to the minority thoughts and let the majority rule for a change...This country was founded on good Christian values and believing in God and our forefathers should not be rolling over in their graves at what a few people are thinking instead of what the majority feel... Get a life and worry about the more important things happening like lack of jobs and high prices and the health of people and their families.. Leave God right where He belongs in schools helping children to grow up knowing responsibility and humility..
America was founded on the belief of freedom of religion. The writers of the constitution put it in the constitution. It has worked for over 200 years, so why are we trying to change it now? I don't feel changing the constitution is an option. How can so few radicals cause such a stir? The majority has gotten lazy and lackadaisical because we have had it so good for so long. But, now it is time for the majority to stand up for what we believe! "In God we trust" and prayer have been around since the beginning of our country, which was founded because of religious tyranny. Are we just about to start the whole cycle all over? I don't believe, if I can help it! This might be your country, but it is mine too and I love it like it is even with all the faults. That is part of our democracy. As far as the money goes....get real! I'm sure it doesn't stop you from spending it. If you are bored with nothing to do, I'm sure there are more constructive things you can do than try to tear down our country a piece at the time.
The Constitution states that the U.S. should have no national religion, not that
religious expressions could not be allowed. The framers of the Constitution knew that the Anglican religion was the only religion allowed in England. They did not want that to happen here. Religious expressions have taken place since our country was founded. For people who wish that it were different to try to change history and take away our national heritage is abominable! If they don't like our history and the obvious intentions of our fore-fathers, they should go somewhere else.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion; but no one should try to prevent anyone from having access to that which helps build morale and commitment to this country. If someone does not like seeing the words "In God We Trust" they can just close their eyes. They do not have to look at the words; but they should not prevent those that want to see those words from doing so. We are all living on earth and should try to be respectful and mindful of the fact that people have different opinions and no one should be shut down. If you don't believe in God, that is your choice; but for those that do, they should not be deprived from exercising their faith. If those who do not believe do not want to hear what is said, they can wear ear plugs. This is real simple stuff.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that secular-humanism (i.e., modern atheism) is a "religion." Therefore, removing God from all vestiges of public life is just as much a violation of separation of church and state as keeping them there.
I don't believe in atheists, myself, just miserable people who can't handle standing before the moral God and being accountable. But I digress. First, "Separation of Church and State" is a myth. It does not exist in the Constitution any more than quotes from Scripture. So let's remove that from the conversation. Second, by allowing only atheism's religious expression in the public schools and public square, is this not necessarily establishing an A-Theocracy? Yes, it is.
Which is hypocritical.
If I'm not going to put my trust in God, is there some atheist entity that I should employ? Are they (atheists) going to hear me when I call for help? Or, maybe I'm not supposed to need help. Oh, well!

Yes - In God we trust, all others should pay cash!!
The motto of IN GOD WE TRUST, has been on U.S. coins and currency, befor any
of you who are against it were born. The old saying of " If it anin' busted, leave
it be. If Atheist's do not care for it, move on out to a Muslim country. One like
Iran, or better yet, to Turkey. Have a good day you all!— lstep2
I like the idea of there is no god.
But then where does the word trust fit in?
There is no god and so I can put my trust in myself. I can know since I am very very wise and there is no god I can do all I desire and never worry about anyone getting justice for the actions I may decide to take. I can trust the very money that I hold in my hand and place my own name on it and say trust me! I know you who agree with me that there is no god will be willing to trust me just as you would your own self given your knowledge of your own personal ways of living. I might even say I would trust the government knowing I can place confidence in all that our own government has done and other governments have done throughout history. The best thing though about that there is no god is that I can kill, steal, murder, rape, burn, and terrorize people and as long as no one catches me I get off scott free. That's a good thought don't you think?
For those who wrote the constitution the question of their living wasn't about if they could do anything, but about if something better than mans on power, ideas, or will could sustain a nation and give people confidence in security and trust of one another. Long had the evidence of mans barbaric strength shown it could only produce destruction and death throughout history. The historical evidence proved also that mans' ideas lead to bondage and devaluation of life. The historical evidence also shows that the will of man is self indulgent and serves only to exalt himself and destroy anyone or anything that challenges him.
I've been to countries where mans' rule is measured by his own self.
Those who say there is no God are saying trust me! Would you trust yourself? Someone else? Who do you trust with our nations security, business, banks, food, water, military, transportation, and people? You?For Example: Next time you go to the store and buy foods(peanuts or spinach) remember to trust the workers(managers) from the processor to the person who puts it on the shelf that they didn't let it set on the shelf too long or tamper with it before placing the product on the shelf. Also remember to trust the company that they out of their own good will and heart will give you a good price for what you are getting.
If you truly believe that there is no God don't complain when you car is stolen, you are demoted at work, fired from work, not enough money to pay bills, daughter is raped, son is shot, you're in a deadly auto accident, house burns, lightning strikes you, people beat and rob you, someone wounds you or is unfaithful to you.
If you are saying "there is no God" you say it because you want to rule over people and in your world there is no place for a God that holds you accountable to how you treat the world. We trust in God because we know man and his aim. The Statue of liberty stands with shackles under her foot saying to people like you "No more bondage" to those who want to be tyrants over us and make themselves into gods. Liberty is the ability and power to do right when my carnal nature says doing wrong would please my human desire better. We know all to well your desire to place the shackles upon again us Mr. "There is no God" proclaimer for you see yourself as the god you claim isn't there.
Trust you? I don't think so; I'll put my trust in God and keep it there.
You just stop whining when bad things happen and keep trusting yourself to handle old Age and death…
Well maybe mercy will visit you when are in a death trap or see there is nothing under your control in the life you have… then who will you trust to answer your cry of fear?
The Bible says, "The fool hath said in his own heart, there is no God."
I have to give the government a lot of credit...they dedicated a whole day for
the few atheist in this country..."APRIL FOOLS DAY"
They are still not satisfied.— PapaNoel
Regarding, the issue in god we trust on our currency. Why all of the controversy? we will soon be unable to carry money or spend it,the way the economy is going. As far as the Atheists or any other group opposing this way of declaring our faith and belief in God,an unbeliever or agnostic should not even be the least bit concerned ,because God does not exist thereby all of the harsh nasty denegrating remarks are just people wanting to vent and trying to out think or out smart anyone else. Everyone wants to be superior and harass the inferior in their minds.I would prefer a reference to our liberty and freedom to live in America.
Perhaps, a philosophy that allows for only native americans, working class to be able to carry money would alter all this unnecessary waste of time and vocabulary.
I have never once felt intimidated by an atheist or agnostic and their choice QUOTE FREDOM to Choose to not Believe. It is their right, given by our Government and the overall populous of America.
If They feel threatened or affected by the words, then perhaps they should not read them.It does not affect the value or non value of our currency. In closing for those that can remember the year 1962 they removed prayer from school? Does that trigger any remorse. We have more access to education, but we also have more crime and violence plus security police in all schools, the poorest scores and more money spent to only
continue the plummetting decline in our educational system.— Joyful 1
The constitutions of 47 states mention God or the Creator as the authority from which all powers to the people or government are derived. The question regarding "In God We Trust" is a mere liberal derivative from the question first brought by atheist Madeline O'Hare in the 60's, regarding the Lord's Prayer in school. Judicial activists in our Courts shifted the clear and unambiguous language of the Constitution and laws to the left >> Socialism.
Look what has happened in our school's since then. Columbine, Jonestown AR, deployment of police officers, lockdowns et al. We really have progressed thanks to the "libs" teachings that the individual is more important than We the People.
"IN GOD WE TRUST" belongs on our currency and belongs in our daily lives, regardless of which God you pray to. For those nominal few who claim to have "No God", let's hear what they say at their moment of truth ...
Each session of Congress begins with a prayer -- by Law.
Our God-less friends have maneuvered this once great Nation to the abyss comparable to the Biblical lands of Sodom and Gomorrha, which were exterminated by an omniscient God exercising His Power to purge the World of a plague. He is once again needed.
Separation of Church and State always meant that the government has no right to meddle in church affairs (No State Religion) not the church or church people (government of the people and by the people) deciding what our government can and can't do. Historically, God was always involved in decisions made in our Constitution
Well said and Amen.
No where in the constitution is there ANY mention of separation of church and state. To ofter those who wish to abolish any sense of public religion forget the last part of the sentence.....OR MAKE ANY LAWS PROHIBITING THE FREE EXERCISE THEREOF.
IN A REPUBLIC (not a democracy), the rights of the minority are RESPECTED, but they DO NOT override the rights of the majority.
